Thirteen small decades in honour of St. Anthony of Padua, whose feast falls on 13 June and whose intercession the poor and the bereft have sought for eight centuries.
Background
A private devotion connected with the Tuesday devotions to St. Anthony and with the alms called St. Anthony's Bread. The number thirteen recalls the day of his death and feast, 13 June 1231. Like every chaplet, it is a devotional exercise, not a liturgical rite; the Church's public honour of St. Anthony is the Mass and Office of his memorial.
How to practice
Pray thirteen small decades of three beads each. On the first bead of each decade pray the Our Father, on the second the Hail Mary, and on the third the Glory Be, offering each decade for a particular need or for the poor whom St. Anthony loved. After the thirteenth decade recite the responsory Si quaeris miracula, then the versicle 'Pray for us, blessed Anthony, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ,' and a closing prayer.
