A private devotion to a saint of Cascia in Umbria who bore a difficult marriage, lost her husband and sons to violence and vendetta, and was received at last into the Augustinian monastery of her town, where she received a wound from the crown of thorns. The roses that mark her devotion come from the account of her final illness, when she asked for a rose from the garden at Roccaporena and one was found in bloom out of season; roses are blessed in her honour on her feast, 22 May.

Pray to her in a particular difficulty — a marriage under strain, a family divided by an old wrong, an illness that will not lift — and ask, as she did, for the grace to forgive before asking for the situation to change. A novena of nine days before her feast, with an Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be each day and one act of forgiveness or reconciliation attempted, is the plainest form of the devotion.
