In 1830 the Blessed Virgin appeared to Saint Catherine Labouré in Paris and asked that a medal be struck bearing the invocation, 'O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee'; the graces attached to it earned it the name 'Miraculous.'
