A popular devotion gathered around a liturgical solemnity kept on the Friday after the second Sunday after Pentecost. Pius XII gave the devotion its fullest magisterial exposition in the encyclical Haurietis Aquas of 1956, teaching that what is honoured is the physical Heart of Christ as the sign of the whole love — human and divine — with which he loved us. The Directory on Popular Piety and the Liturgy asks that the devotions of the month be kept in harmony with the liturgy of the season, in which the Sacred Heart, Corpus Christi and the Immaculate Heart follow closely on one another.

Through June, pray the Litany of the Sacred Heart each day, alone or with the family, and begin each morning with the Morning Offering, which places the day's prayers, works, joys and sufferings in the Heart of Jesus. Keep the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart at Mass. If your household has an image of the Sacred Heart, put it in a place of honour with a light before it for the month. Add one concrete act of reparation — a visit to the Blessed Sacrament, an hour given to someone who is alone — rather than only more words.
