Saint Ambrose (c. 339-397), bishop of Milan, was a great preacher and hymn-writer who confronted emperors, opposed Arianism, and baptized Saint Augustine in 387. One of the four original Latin Doctors of the Church, confirmed by Pope Boniface VIII in 1298.
