Saint Catherine of Siena (1347-1380), Dominican tertiary, mystic, and reformer, persuaded the pope to return from Avignon to Rome and wrote the Dialogue of Divine Providence. Declared a Doctor of the Church by Pope Paul VI in 1970, among the first women so honored.
