Background
Saint Hilary (c. 310-367), bishop of Poitiers, was the foremost Latin defender of Nicene orthodoxy against Arianism, for which he was exiled to Phrygia. His De Trinitate is a landmark of Trinitarian theology. Declared a Doctor of the Church by Pope Pius IX in 1851.
