Saint Jerome (c. 347-420), priest and scholar, translated the Scriptures into Latin (the Vulgate) and wrote extensive biblical commentaries from his monastery in Bethlehem. One of the four original Latin Doctors of the Church, confirmed by Pope Boniface VIII in 1298.
