Background
Saint John Chrysostom (c. 349-407), archbishop of Constantinople, was the most celebrated preacher of the early Church, called 'Golden-Mouthed' for his eloquence. His homilies and the Divine Liturgy that bears his name remain treasures of the Christian East. Declared a Doctor of the Church by Pope Pius V in 1568.
