Saint Thomas Aquinas (1225-1274), Dominican friar, produced the Summa Theologiae, the most comprehensive synthesis of Christian doctrine. Pope Leo XIII made his thought normative for Catholic philosophy. Declared a Doctor of the Church by Pope Saint Pius V in 1567.
