The colors of the vestments and altar cloths that mark the seasons and feasts of the liturgical year.

White (or gold) is used for Christmas and Easter, feasts of the Lord, Mary, and non-martyr saints, expressing joy and glory. Red marks Passion celebrations, Pentecost, and feasts of martyrs and apostles. Green is worn in Ordinary Time. Violet is used in Advent and Lent and for the dead. Rose may be used on Gaudete and Laetare Sundays.
