The twenty-first and most recent ecumenical council (1962–1965) was a pastoral council that renewed the Church's self-understanding and mission. Its sixteen documents — among them Lumen Gentium, Dei Verbum, Sacrosanctum Concilium, and Gaudium et Spes — addressed the Church, divine revelation, the liturgy, and the Church in the modern world.
