Nine days of thanksgiving and petition to the angel God has given each person as guardian, ordinarily kept before the memorial of the Guardian Angels on 2 October. The received prayer is a long act of gratitude for services already rendered, followed by the request that the angel not leave.
Background
The Church holds that from infancy to death human life is surrounded by the watchful care and intercession of the angels, and keeps the memorial of the Guardian Angels on 2 October. This is a devotional novena for private use. The received form repeats one prayer on each of the nine days; the subjects below are editorial and the prayer is unchanged. Devotion to the angels is always subordinate to the worship due to God alone, whom they serve.
