The Redemptorist novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Help: an act of contrition, the received preparatory prayer said on each of the nine days, and a different meditation each day on one of the ways her help is called perpetual. It is commonly prayed from June 18 to June 26, before her feast on June 27, and at any time of need.
Background
The icon of the Mother of Perpetual Help, painted in the Byzantine manner and venerated on Crete by the fifteenth century, was brought to Rome and later given by Blessed Pius IX to the Redemptorists in 1866 with the charge to make her known throughout the world. The perpetual novena that grew up around it became one of the most widespread Marian devotions of the twentieth century. The daily prayer does not change; the nine meditation subjects below are those of the received Redemptorist novena.
