Novena
Novena to the Most Precious Blood of Jesus
Nine-day novena · begins Late June, ending on 1 July, the traditional feast of the Most Precious Blood
Nine days of prayer honouring the Blood that Christ shed for the redemption of the world, traditionally kept at the beginning of July, the month the older calendar devoted to the Precious Blood. The received prayer pleads by the seven sheddings of that Blood and refuses to leave the Saviour's feet unheard.
Background
Devotion to the Precious Blood was spread above all by St. Gaspar del Bufalo and the Missionaries of the Precious Blood; Pope Pius IX extended a feast of the Most Precious Blood to the universal Church, kept on 1 July until the calendar reform of 1969, which joined its content to the Solemnity of Corpus Christi. This is a private devotion. The received form repeats one prayer on each of the nine days; the subjects below are editorial and the prayer is unaltered.
