Nine days of prayer to the apostle whom the Church invokes as patron of desperate and hopeless cases, kept from 19 to 27 October before his feast with St. Simon on 28 October. The novena has nine distinct received prayers, each ending with the invocations Saint Jude, pray for us and My Jesus, mercy.
Background
Jude Thaddeus was one of the Twelve and the author of the short canonical epistle that bears his name; because his name was confused with that of the traitor he was long neglected, which is the origin of the tradition that he is especially quick to help those whom no one else will. The Church honours him with St. Simon on 28 October. This is a private devotion. The opening prayer, Saint Jude, glorious apostle, is said first each day, followed by the prayer proper to the day.
