Apparition
Apparitions of Our Lady of Betania (Reconciler of Peoples)
Church-approved Marian apparition · Finca Betania, Cúa, Diocese of Los Teques, Venezuela, 1976
From 25 March 1976 the Blessed Virgin Mary was reported to appear at the farm of Betania near Cúa, first to María Esperanza Medrano de Bianchini and later, on 25 March 1984, to a large crowd of witnesses at once. On 21 November 1987 Bishop Pío Bello Ricardo of Los Teques declared the apparitions authentic and of supernatural character, and designated Betania a place of pilgrimage.
Background
Bishop Bello Ricardo, a Jesuit trained in psychology, conducted the inquiry himself, interviewing hundreds of witnesses and gathering several hundred written depositions before issuing his pastoral instruction. Mary is invoked at Betania under the title Reconciler of Peoples and Nations, and the site is dedicated to prayer for peace and reconciliation. The judgement is that of the local ordinary; as with all approved private revelation, no one is bound in faith to accept it.
