What the Church has approved at Quito is the veneration of Our Lady of Good Success: the bishop's act of 1611, the enduring devotion of the monastery and city, and the canonical coronation of the image in 1991. No ecclesiastical decree has ever judged the supernatural character of the revelations themselves. Much of the material circulated in modern devotional literature — including the long prophecies about later centuries — derives from a biography written in 1790, more than a century and a half after Mother Mariana's death, and has never been the subject of any Church judgement; it should be read with corresponding reserve.
