Apparition of Our Lady of Pontmain
A reported Marian apparition
On the evening of January 17, 1871, during the Franco-Prussian War, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared in the sky above Pontmain to several children, displaying a banner with the message, 'But pray, my children; God will hear you in a little while.' The advancing army halted, and an armistice soon followed.

The apparition was approved by the Bishop of Laval in 1872. Our Lady of Pontmain is venerated as Our Lady of Hope, and the basilica at Pontmain is a place of pilgrimage.
