On September 19, 1846, the Blessed Virgin appeared in tears to two shepherd children, Mélanie Calvat and Maximin Giraud, on a mountainside at La Salette; the apparition was approved by the Bishop of Grenoble in 1851.
theological Significance
Under this title Mary is honored as the Reconciler of sinners, whose tears call her children back from sin to penance and the mercy of her Son.
