Our Lady
Our Lady of Lourdes
Title of the Blessed Virgin Mary · Feast February 11
Mary venerated under the title given at her 1858 apparitions at Lourdes, where she declared, 'I am the Immaculate Conception.'
Origin
In 1858 the Blessed Virgin appeared eighteen times to Saint Bernadette Soubirous at the grotto of Massabielle in Lourdes, France, calling for prayer and penance and revealing a healing spring.
Why it matters
The title confirms the dogma of the Immaculate Conception defined in 1854 and expresses Mary's maternal care for the sick, whom the Church especially commends to her on this feast.
