Saint Agatha (died c. 251) was a young woman of Sicily who consecrated her virginity to Christ and suffered a cruel martyrdom under the persecution of Decius rather than renounce her faith. One of the most venerated virgin martyrs of antiquity, her name is named in the Roman Canon of the Mass.
