biography
Saint Andrew Kim Taegon (1821-1846) was the first native Korean Catholic priest, ordained after perilous study abroad. He returned to minister to the persecuted Church in Korea and was beheaded near Seoul at the age of twenty-five. With Saint Paul Chong Hasang and many lay companions, the Korean Martyrs were canonized by Saint John Paul II in Seoul in 1984.
