biography
Saint Barnabas, a Levite of Cyprus, was surnamed Barnabas ('son of encouragement') by the Apostles. He introduced the newly converted Saul to the disciples and accompanied Saint Paul on his first missionary journey. Venerated as an apostle, tradition holds he was martyred at Salamis on Cyprus.
