biography
Saint Bede (c. 673-735), a Benedictine monk of Northumbria and Doctor of the Church, was the greatest scholar of his age. His Ecclesiastical History of the English People earned him the title 'Father of English History,' and his scriptural commentaries nourished the medieval Church. He died dictating a translation of Saint John's Gospel.
