Saint Bernardine of Siena (1380-1444), a Franciscan friar, was the most celebrated preacher of fifteenth-century Italy, drawing vast crowds to repentance and peace. He spread devotion to the Holy Name of Jesus, displaying the monogram IHS, and reformed the Franciscan Observants. He is a patron of preachers.
