Saint Boniface (c. 675-754), the 'Apostle of Germany,' was an English Benedictine monk who evangelized the Germanic peoples, famously felling the sacred Oak of Thor to show the powerlessness of the pagan gods. He reformed the Frankish church and was martyred with his companions in Frisia while awaiting confirmands.
