Saint Brigid of Kildare (c. 451-525) is, with Saint Patrick, one of the patrons of Ireland. Renowned for boundless charity to the poor, she founded the great double monastery of Kildare and is remembered in countless legends of her generosity. The woven Saint Brigid's Cross is still hung in Irish homes on her feast.
