biography
Saint Charles Lwanga (c. 1860-1886) was a chief page at the court of King Mwanga of Buganda who, with a group of young companions, was put to death for his Christian faith and for protecting the pages from the king's abuse. Many were burned alive at Namugongo. These Ugandan Martyrs, canonized in 1964, are patrons of African youth.
