A saint of the Catholic Church
biography
Saint Clement of Rome (died c. 99) was the fourth pope, an apostolic father who had known the apostles. His Letter to the Corinthians, written to heal a division in that church, is among the earliest Christian writings outside the New Testament and a witness to the early authority of Rome. Tradition holds he was martyred by being cast into the sea.
