Saint Columba (521-597) was an Irish monk who, with twelve companions, founded the monastery of Iona off the coast of Scotland, from which the faith spread among the Picts and Scots. A scholar and scribe of fierce energy and deep prayer, he is one of the great apostles of the Celtic Church.
