Saint Cyprian (c. 210-258), bishop of Carthage and a Father of the Church, guided his people through persecution and controversy over the lapsed, writing influential treatises on the unity of the Church. He was martyred under the Emperor Valerian and is commemorated with Pope St. Cornelius.
