biography
Saint Damien of Molokai (1840-1889), a Belgian priest of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts, ministered to the abandoned lepers of the Hawaiian island of Molokai, eventually contracting and dying of the disease himself. Canonized in 2009, he is a patron of those afflicted with leprosy.
