biography
Saint Dymphna was a seventh-century Irish princess who fled to Geel in Belgium to escape her pagan father after the death of her mother. When he found her and she refused his sinful demands, he beheaded her around the age of fifteen. Her shrine at Geel became a renowned center of compassionate care for the mentally ill, and she is the patron of those who suffer mental and emotional illness.
