Saint Eligius (c. 588-660) was a renowned goldsmith and royal mint-master in Frankish Gaul who gave generously to the poor and ransomed captives before becoming Bishop of Noyon, evangelizing Flanders. He is the patron of goldsmiths, metalworkers, and all who work with their hands.
