Saint Elizabeth of Portugal (1271-1336), a queen and Franciscan tertiary, was famed for her charity to the poor and the sick and for making peace between warring kings and even her own son and husband, earning the title 'the Peacemaker.' Widowed, she retired near a Poor Clare convent.
