Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini (1850-1917), foundress of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, emigrated from Italy to the United States and established schools, hospitals, and orphanages for immigrants. Canonized in 1946, she was the first United States citizen to be canonized.
