Saint Gertrude the Great (1256-1302) was a Benedictine nun of Helfta and one of the great mystics of the Church, favored with profound revelations of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Her Herald of Divine Love records her intimate union with Christ. She is especially invoked for the souls in purgatory, for whom she prayed unceasingly.
