biography
Saint Giles (c. 650-710) was a hermit in the forests of Provence whose sanctity drew many to him; his abbey became a great medieval pilgrimage center. One of the Fourteen Holy Helpers, he is the patron of the disabled, beggars, and those who live apart from the world.
