biography
Saint Gregory the Great (c. 540-604), Pope and Doctor of the Church, left the life of a monk to govern the Church through famine, plague, and invasion. He reformed the liturgy, sent missionaries to England, cared tirelessly for the poor, and wrote enduring works of pastoral wisdom. The Church honors him among the four great Latin Doctors.
