Saint Helena (c. 248-c. 330), mother of the Emperor Constantine, was a devout convert who, in her old age, made a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, where tradition holds she discovered the True Cross of Christ. She built churches on the holy sites and is venerated for her piety and charity.
