Saint Ignatius of Loyola
biography
Saint Ignatius of Loyola (1491-1556), Basque nobleman turned mystic and reformer, founded the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits) in 1540. His Spiritual Exercises, composed during his convalescence at Manresa, remain one of the most influential works of Western spirituality. Canonized in 1622.
