biography
Saint Jerome (c. 347-420), Doctor of the Church, was the greatest biblical scholar of the early Church, who translated the Scriptures into Latin to produce the Vulgate. A monk and ascetic who settled in Bethlehem, he wrote extensive commentaries and famously declared that 'ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ.' He is the patron of biblical scholars.
