Saint John Henry Newman (1801-1890) was a leading Anglican theologian of the Oxford Movement who, after long study of the early Church, was received into the Catholic Church in 1845. A priest, founder of the Oratory in England, and later cardinal, he wrote masterworks such as the Apologia Pro Vita Sua and the Essay on the Development of Christian Doctrine. He was canonized in 2019.
