biography
Saint Josephine Bakhita (c. 1869-1947) was born in Darfur, kidnapped and sold into slavery as a child, and eventually freed in Italy, where she became a Canossian Sister. Canonized in 2000, she is a witness to forgiveness and a patron of victims of human trafficking.
