Biography
Saint Lawrence was a deacon of Rome martyred in 258 under Valerian. Charged to surrender the Church's treasures, he presented the poor, saying, 'These are the treasures of the Church.' Tradition holds he was martyred on a gridiron. He is honored among the most celebrated Roman martyrs.
