biography
Saint Mark, a companion of Saints Peter and Paul, wrote the second Gospel, drawing on Peter's preaching. Tradition holds that he founded the Church of Alexandria and was martyred there. His relics rest in the Basilica of San Marco in Venice, of which he is patron.
