Saint Martha of Bethany was the sister of Mary and Lazarus and a friend of Jesus, who welcomed him into her home. The Gospels recall her busy hospitality, her profound profession of faith before the raising of Lazarus ('You are the Christ, the Son of God'), and her place among the Lord's closest friends. She is the patron of cooks and homemakers.
