A saint of the Catholic Church
biography
Saint Matthias was chosen by the eleven Apostles, by the casting of lots after prayer, to take the place of Judas Iscariot among the Twelve (Acts 1:15-26). Having been a disciple of the Lord from the baptism of John, he preached the Gospel and, by tradition, was martyred for the faith.
