Saint Padre Pio of Pietrelcina
biography
Saint Pio of Pietrelcina (1887-1968), a Capuchin Franciscan friar, bore the visible stigmata for fifty years. Known for his long hours in the confessional, mystical gifts, and intense devotion to the Mass, he founded the Home for the Relief of Suffering hospital in San Giovanni Rotondo. Beatified by Pope John Paul II in 1999 and canonized in 2002.
